If someone’s comment already has you shaking\u2014congratulations, you just gave your morning to a stranger with a cat avatar.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n

Researchers call it a “hate epidemic”: a sharp rise in aggression in everyday conversations, in comments, on public transport, in parent chats. The WHO warned earlier\u2014prolonged stress reduces the capacity for empathy and triggers reactivity even in those who aren’t naturally confrontational. Put simply: we’re exhausted, and the psyche has switched to “snap first, think later” mode. <\/p>\n\n

Why everyone’s so triggered<\/h2>\n\n

When instability around you lasts for years, the brain stops investing in the long-term\u2014in projects, relationships, in slow, painstaking development. Energy seeks the shortest outlet. And the shortest outlet is arguing with someone in the comments. Because there’s quick dopamine, an illusion of control, and the feeling that you “did something.” <\/p>\n\n

Algorithms know this better than we do. Negative emotions spread through the feed faster than positive ones and hold attention longer. It’s profitable for the platform when you argue. Arguing = time in the app = ads. So the feed automatically puts exactly what pisses you off right under your nose\u2014to keep you from leaving. <\/p>\n\n

And here you are, a grown person with a pile of things to do, already spending twenty minutes writing a response to a stranger who wrote something stupid about coffee, parenting, language, war, Zelensky, Stray Kids, or how to properly cook borscht. The list is endless. <\/p>\n\n

Hate is a sport. The one who doesn’t step onto the field wins <\/h2>\n\n

Look at it honestly. When something gets to you\u2014it’s not random. It’s work: someone else’s, the algorithm’s, your own (because in that moment it’s easier to argue than to do what’s actually scary). Every emotional reaction is a small permission for the world to keep pulling you by an invisible string. <\/p>\n\n

You can spend a long time explaining to yourself that it’s a “matter of principle.” That “someone has to say it.” That “staying silent is impossible.” Sometimes that’s true. But more often\u2014no. More often it’s just an excuse to vent the tension that’s built up during the day, in a safe format\u2014on a stranger you’ll never see again. <\/p>\n\n

The problem is that resources aren’t infinite. Every argument over trivialities is hours you won’t have later for loved ones, for work, for sleep, for yourself. Energy that could have gone toward something you’d be proud of in December goes into a comment that will be forgotten in 12 minutes. <\/p>\n\n

How to stop playing<\/h2>\n\n

A few simple things that work. Not magic, not a course for 9,990 hryvnias\u2014just skills. <\/p>\n\n

  • The 10-minute rule.<\/strong> Got triggered in the comments? Close the app. Set a timer. Come back in 10 minutes\u2014and see if it’s still worth responding to. In 90% of cases\u2014no. <\/li>\n
  • The “and then what?” question.<\/strong> Imagine you won the argument. They admitted they were wrong. And? What changed in your life? Usually\u2014nothing. So why start in the first place. <\/li>\n
  • Subscription audit.<\/strong> If an account regularly ruins your mood\u2014it’s not “provocative content,” it’s toxic noise. Unfollowing isn’t an insult, it’s hygiene. <\/li>\n
  • Body first.<\/strong> Before responding\u2014exhale. If your shoulders are up to your ears, jaw clenched\u2014you’re no longer in a discussion, you’re in a fight. You rarely write anything smart in a fight. <\/li>\n
  • Redirect.<\/strong> That same energy you were about to put into a response\u2014put it into 15 minutes of work on what actually matters to you. Try it for one day. You’ll be surprised. <\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n

    POHUY as an answer<\/h2>\n\n

    POHUY isn’t about not caring. It’s about choosing where your energy goes. Not the algorithm. Not the neighbor in the comment thread. Not the person trying to provoke you because they’re hurting too. <\/p>\n\n

    Strength is calm. Not that fake calm when you’re boiling inside but smiling outside. But real calm\u2014when you simply don’t take it. Don’t pick up what’s thrown. Don’t enter a fight you don’t need. Because you have more important things: your person, your work, your sleep, your body, your morning “glad I’m alive.” <\/p>\n\n
